Western Undergraduate Exchange- College in the West for Less

We would like to introduce you to a wonderful program through which students in western states can enroll in participating two-year and four-year public college programs at a reduced tuition level.

Virtually all undergraduate fields are open to WUE students at one or more of the participating colleges and universities. If you apply for and receive this you can cut your tuition costs significantly. WUE tuition is considerably less than non-resident tuition.

Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Scholarships Open January 2012

Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is a college that is geared toward Fashion and Design. The Majors run the gamut from Fashion Design, Media Design, Graphic Design, Jewelry Design, Costume Design to Marketing. If you are interested in any of these (and several more) fields, this may be the school for you.

The Violet Richardson Award sponsored by Soroptimist International recognizes young women who make the community and the world a better place through their volunteer efforts.  If you are a young woman who has done a lot a volunteer/service work and have a passion for it, you are encouraged to apply. Winners are eligible to receive cash awards for themselves and for the charitable organization of their choice.

BK Scholars Applications Begin November 15, 2011

BK Scholars  has announced that they will be opening applications on Tuesday, November 15, 2011and closing on January 10, 2012. You may be eligible to win up to $50,000!

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

• Be residents of the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico
• Be graduating high school seniors (U.S. and Puerto Rico), graduating from grade 12 (Canada) or graduating from home school education in the U.S., Puerto Rico or Canada
• Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent
• Plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2011-12 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico

December 3, 12011 SAT Registration November 8, 2011 Deadline

Registration Deadline for December 3 SAT test is Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Seniors who plan to attend a 4 year college or university, this December 3rd SAT test is the last one that will be accepted. If you haven't taken it yet and need it to get into college in the fall, this is your last chance! Don't miss this important deadline!

Go to SAT Registration and apply today. Remember if you are an AVID student or get Reduced Lunch, you are eligible for a Fee waiver. Come into the counseling office and pick one up!

CSU System Admissions Information

Important information for students planning on attending a California State University System school. This applies to anyone, not just seniors as it will ensure you are on the right path to getting into a CSU school.

• Undergraduate programs at many CSU are impacted. If you are an 2012 CSU freshman, this means that applicants will be ranked based on GPA in the approved college prep coursework (A-G requirements) and SAT/ACT scores. Official scores will be due no later than December 22, 2011.

Be aware of the classes you take and the grades you earn. Colleges will have to withdraw admission offers to students who upon review of their final transcripts, do not meet CUS minimum requirements. It is important to review your high school transcript so that you can make sure you are on track.

"D" grades are NOT acceptable for college admission, only for high school graduation. Don't make the mistake of thinking that it will not interfere with your college eligibility. It will.

Here is how the process works:

Students are provisionally admitted in the winter based on a combination of self-reported GPA and official SAT?ACT scores. If a student has a D or an F in an A-G requirement prior to their senior  year, that student may be provisionally admitted on the premise that they have until the end of their senior year to make up any missing coursework. This will not be able to be determined by the college until they receive the final, official transcript in mid-July. If the requirements are not met, you will be notified in July or August that you are no longer eligible to enroll in the fall. Summer coursework will not be accepted. D and F grades MUST be made up in the spring term of your senior year.

To get a copy of your transcript,  go into room M103 (Registration and Records) and put in a request to have it printed. You can also come in and fill out a slip to see a counselor to talk over your concerns.

Sierra Nevada College High School Writing Contest

Sierra Nevada College is holding a writing contest for high school Juniors and Seniors!

They are looking for the best of high school writing! The contest is open to U.S. juniors and seniors, and students may enter all three categories:

• Poetry
• Fiction
• Non-fiction

All entries must be original, unpublished work.

First place prize winners in each category will receive $500; second place in each category will receive $200; third place in each category will receive $100.  Winners will be considered for publication in the Sierra Nevada Review.
