Rotary International Youth Exchange-Due Oct. 14, 2011

It’s not too late to apply to be a Rotary Youth Exchange student! Deadline is Friday, October 14, 2011.

As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, you’ll spend up to a year living with host families and attending school in a different country.

“Whether you participate in Rotary’s long-term or short-term Youth Exchange programs, you’ll learn a new way of living, a great deal about yourself, and maybe even a new language. You’ll also be an ambassador, teaching people you meet about your country, culture, and ideas. You can help bring the world closer – and make some good friends in the process.”
Applications are available in the Counseling office so come by and pick one up today.  You will pick up an application for yourself and one for parents to fill out.

HSU Fall Admissions Day-Saturday October 22, 2011

Humboldt State University is having a Fall Admissions Day on Saturday, October 22, 2011.  Here is some more information about the day and how to register:

Fall Admissions Day (FAD) is a unique event within the California State University system because we'll let you know right on the spot if you will be admitted to HSU! You  must fill out and submit your Fall 2012 application*  to have it reviewed by an Admissions Counselor and receive an admissions decision before you leave. To apply, click on the Fall 2012 application link in above.

Fall Admissions Day is a one-day event on our campus on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Activities will begin at 9:00am and will last through 3:00pm. You can sign up today using our online registration page.

So remember, first submit your application and then register for Fall Admissions Day.

"That tends to communicate a bit about who they are." He advises that students avoid this by registering for a very standard email address — first name, last name, etc. — and using that for all college-related correspondences. In the same vein, encourage your teen to clean up her Facebook and Twitter accounts — colleges often check them out to get a better sense of what each applicant is like."

UC System Day Thursday October 6, 2011

College Preview Days Coming Up Soon

Chico State Preview Day October 22, 2011

If you are planning on or interested in going to school at Chico State University, here is an opportunity for you and your parents to check it out. Chico Preview Day is Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 9:00am to 3:00 pm. Preview days are a wonderful opportunity to get a look at your prospective campus and make connections with helpful staff.

They will be having activities all day long including campus tours, Financial Aid workshops, tours of the residence halls, and meeting with department representatives. This is a free event and they are taking registrations via the Internet. If you are interested, go to Chico Preview Day to register for the day.

University of California Merced Preview Day October 15, 2011

UC Merced's preview day is Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. There will be academic presentations, campus tours, workshops, an information fair and student panels. For more information and to register go  to UC Merced.

The Wendy’s Heisman award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.

”The Wendy’s High School Heisman Program is all about academic and athletic achievement—what you’ve already accomplished. And what’s still to come. Our goal is to help every student reach his or her full potential by recognizing excellence and opening the door to new opportunities to succeed.”

Eligibility Criteria:

To achieve award eligibility for the 2011 Wendy’s High School Heisman Program, students must be seniors during the 2011/2012 academic years, graduating with the class of 2012.

Applicants must:

Learn:
Have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of a B (3.0) or better.

Perform:
Participate in at least one of 27 eligible school-sponsored sports. (see website for list of sports)

Lead:
Be a leader in school and in the community and serve as a role model for underclassman.

What they are looking for:

Students who apply will be judged based on their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community-leadership, and involvement in various extracurricular activities during grades 9 through 11.
