Humboldt Area Foundation Transcripts- Important!

Seniors if you are submitting a Humboldt Area Foundation Scholarship Application, please give the registrar’s office your email address when requesting your transcript.  If you have already requested a transcript and it has not been emailed to you then please stop by M103 give us your email address. Humboldt Area Foundation Scholarships--Requesting more applicants!

These scholarships are available and so far have very few applicants! These are all offered through the Humboldt Area Foundation and you only need to fill out one application to apply to all of these. Several of these are for EHS students only so you have a good chance of winning these scholarships. Every dollar counts when you are paying for college. Don't miss out on these opportunities! 1 Award(s) in the Amount of $400
Howard Friel, now retired, taught and coached many, many years for Eureka City Schools. Although he taught math, he always felt English was the most important subject.  The annual Scholarship award will be in the amount of $400. Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible: s  Origin: Eureka High School s  Level: Graduating senior s  G.P.A.: Not considered s  Destination: College or university in California s  Enrollment: Part-time or full-time s  Field of Study: English s  Financial Need: Not considered s  Important: Preference given to students who play an instrument or sings

The Gallon Memorial Scholarship
1 Award in the Amount of $250
This scholarship was established in memory of members of the Gallon Family. The annual scholarship award will be in the amount of $250. Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible: s  Origin: Eureka High School, Fortuna High School or HSU s  Level: Graduating senior or currently enrolled at HSU s  G.P.A.: Minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) s  Destination: College or university s  Enrollment: Part-time or full-time s  Field of Study: Teaching s  Financial Need: Demonstrates financial need

Greenwood Family Scholarship

Charlotte Greenwood, the widow of William R. Edith & James A. (Jim) Howard Scholarship

This fund was established in memory of Edith Howard by her husband, Jim.  One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually to African-American graduates of Eureka High School or St. Bernard High School.  Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible: s  Origin: Eureka High School or St. Bernard High School s  Level: Not considered s  G.P.A.: Maintained a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) the last 3 years of high school s  Destination: 4-year accredited college or university s  Enrollment: Full-time s  Field of Study: Not considered s  Financial Need: All things being equal, financial need will be taken into consideration s  Important: African-American descent

Eldred I. (Bo) MacMillan Scholarship

This award was established in memory of “Bo” MacMillan.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a student pursuing a course of study in Civil Engineering.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible: s  Origin: Humboldt County high school s  Level: Not considered s  G.P.A.: Not considered s  Destination: 4-year accredited college, university or graduate school s  Enrollment: Full-time s  Field of Study: Civil Engineering s  Financial Need: Intended for students of low and middle income families s  Important: Strong mathematics or science academic achievements

Mary & Melvin “Skip” Matson Scholarship
1Award(s) in the Amount of $500
This scholarship was established in memory of Melvin Gus “Skip” Matson, by his wife Mary.  Mr. Matson was a native and resident of Eureka, and a lifelong commercial fisherman.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Eureka High School student on “odd years” and a Fortuna High School student on “even years”.  In 2012 this scholarship will be awarded to a Eureka High student.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible: s  Origin: Graduate of Eureka High School s  Level: Graduating high school senior s  G.P.A.: Minimum 3.5  GPA s  Destination: 4-year accredited college or university s  Enrollment: Full-time only s  Field of Study: Not considered s  Financial Need: All things being equal, financial need will be taken into consideration s  Important: Member of the track & field team for 4 years

Melvin & Leona Peterson Memorial Scholarship

Leona E. Peterson established this scholarship in 1985 to honor her husband Melvin T. Peterson. This $500 scholarship will be awarded annually. Justin Keele Make a Difference Award

Justin Keele Make A Difference Award: April 1, 2012 deadline.

Attention EAST, Community Service Volunteers, and Senior Project Students: Are you looking for funds to get your project off the ground and running? The Justin Keele Make A Difference Award is available for students of ALL ages, and is meant to fund projects that “pay it forward” and make a difference in your community. The award is worth $200 to $2000 dollars, and can be yours if you apply by April 1^st! Pick up an application in the Counseling Office or online at: hafoundation.org. This grant is meant to fund deserving individual or group achieve their goals, aspirations, dreams or relief of hardship. It can be used to for tools, equipment, supplies, tuition, fees, fines and other necessities to achieve the goals of the individual or group.

The applicant should have an individual, group or cause along with a clear plan to assist a particular need and should articulate why they deserve a helping hand and how the grant will help.

You will need to have the application, a one-to-two page essay addressing the topics listed on the application and a letter of recommendation from a professional person.

This is an awesome opportunity for anyone interested in "paying it forward" which means helping someone or group that needs a little help to achieve their goals and dreams. You can make a difference and you can change the world! Here is an opportunity to help you get started or to continue your plan to help others in need.

Examples of projects that can be funded, but not limited to these:

• Fundraising Events- Programs like Betty's Blue Angels and the Homeless Education Project are always in need of funds. Students who coordinate fundraising events to benefit such programs would be eligible to receive money
• Helping Others- Often times we encounter folks we would love the help get through a rough time but may not have the means to do so. An example of a project like this would be using the money to purchase school clothing for kids who are in need.
• Seed Money- Do you have an idea and lots of energy to make it happen but need some funds to coordinate an event or program that would benefit those in need? This award could be for you to get you started on that project/goal.

Remember, the idea is to "Pay it forward", which means the recipient of a favor does a favor for another person rather than "paying it back" to the person who did them a favor.

Projects that help homeless youth are given preference.
