State Level Italian Catholic Federation First Year Scholarship

We have a new scholarship from the State level of the Italian Catholic Federation! This is the Federation's State level scholarship and requires a separate application.

This scholarship is for $400.

Criteria for  this scholarship include students who are Baptized Roman Catholic and of Italian descent or whose non-Italian Roman Catholic parents, guardians or grandparents are members of the Italian Catholic Federation; achieve a total cumulative (3-1/2 years) GPA of at least 3.2 and who live within the Roman Catholic Dioceses of California, Nevada, Illinois and Arizona where Branches of the Federation are established.

Applications will be judged and evaluated on:
  • Scholastic Achievement-Total Cumulative GPA (3 1/2 years) and Class Rank
  • Financial need
  • Leadership role
  • Faculty recommendation and character reference
  • Extracurricular activities and charitable efforts
  • Family Membership/Activities in the Italian Catholic Federation
You will need to have your high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a school official and a personal letter of approximately 150 words about the stated topic.

If  you are interested, applications are located in the Counseling office in the scholarship box.

Humboldt Area Foundation Scholarships--Requesting more applicants!

Deadline March 15 at 5:00pm

These scholarships are available and so far have very few applicants! These are all offered through the Humboldt Area Foundation and you only need to fill out one application to apply to all of these. Several of these are for EHS students only so you have a good chance of winning these scholarships. Every dollar counts when you are paying for college. Don't miss out on these opportunities! They want to award these scholarships! (Eureka only scholarships are highlighted in purple)
 
Friel Family Scholarships


1 Award(s) in the Amount of $400


Howard Friel, now retired, taught and coached many, many years for Eureka City Schools. Although he taught math, he always felt English was the most important subject.  The annual Scholarship award will be in the amount of $400. Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

The Gallon Memorial Scholarship
1 Award in the Amount of $250


This scholarship was established in memory of members of the Gallon Family. The annual scholarship award will be in the amount of $250. Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

s  Level:
Graduating senior or currently enrolled at HSU
s  G.P.A.:
Minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)

Greenwood Family Scholarship
1 Award(s) in the Amount of $500


Charlotte Greenwood, the widow of William R. (Bill) Greenwood, a well-known Eureka businessman, established this scholarship in his memory and in honor of their family.  One annual scholarship of $500 will be awarded.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

This fund was established in memory of Edith Howard by her husband, Jim.  One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually to African-American graduates of Eureka High School or St. Bernard High School.  Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

This scholarship was established in memory of Melvin Gus “Skip” Matson, by his wife Mary.  Mr. Matson was a native and resident of Eureka, and a lifelong commercial fisherman.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Eureka High School student on “odd years” and a Fortuna High School student on “even years”.  In 2012 this scholarship will be awarded to a Eureka High student.  Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

Leona E. Peterson established this scholarship in 1985 to honor her husband Melvin T. Peterson. This $500 scholarship will be awarded annually. Candidates described by the following criteria are eligible:

March 15, 2012 A Big Deadline for Scholarships!

March is a busy month filled with scholarship deadlines!

Here are the scholarships we have due on March 15 so far:

The Humboldt Area Foundation

The Humboldt Area Foundation is the largest and most comprehensive source for local scholarships in Humboldt County. HAF offers at least 90 different scholarships in one place! All you need to do is to fill out one application to apply for as many as you like.

This year they have updated the entire application process and put it on the web! Based on each student’s unique interests and background the application will generate all of the scholarships for which the student is eligible. This takes the work out of deciding which ones you are eligible for. They have included a pre-application check list that you can print out to make sure you have everything you need before you apply. That check list is available here.

This is now an easy one stop process that will give you access to all the scholarships they have available.

Humboldt Area Foundation

Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California Inc, Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline March 15, 2012

The intent of the Cabrillo Civics Clubs of California, Inc. scholarship is to assist students of Portuguese descent who have a desire to secure a higher education. These scholarships are in the amount of $500.

Eligibility Requirements: 
  • Must be of Portuguese descent  on mother or father's side, be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.50 and be a graduate of a California high school. (Transcript is required and must accompany application)
  • Meet all college or university requirements to enroll
  • Participated in at least three extra-curricular activities while in high school
  • Three letters of recommendation: One from principal, dean or counselor verifying participation in extra curricular activities; one from a teacher of the high school attended and one from any source (except a relative) who can vouch for your academic standing, character and personality. Individuals writing letters must include their titles or position.
Applications are available in the Counseling office and are due March 15, 2012

HCLPA Scholarhips
Deadline for the following Scholarships is March 15, 2012


The HCLPA is offering two scholarships for students interested in pursuing their studies in the legal field.

Eula Mae Jett Scholarship:

This scholarship is based on academic achievement and financial need. It is geared toward students who are interested in pursuing a course of study in court reporting, paralegal studies, legal secretary or assistant and legal reception.

Judges Harold E. Neville/John E Morrison Scholarship and the Donna Mullen Scholarship

These scholarships are awarded based on the following:

  • Applicant’s desire to further his/her education
  • Academic achievement and
  • Financial need
  • Applications for both of these are available in the Counseling office scholarship box.
These scholarships range from $400- $1,000. Come in and get your applications today.
