BigSun Organization Athletic Scholarships Apply Online!

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. In order to do our part we are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

How to Apply:Please send us a short essay answering the following question:

How has your education contributed to who you are today? Why do you want to earn a college education?

Who is eligible?

All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute.

Please include information on the sport(s) you are currently participating in.

Applications Now Available for the Jacob Spencer Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: April 20, 2012 no later than 3:30pm

The Jacob Spencer Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Jacob Andrew Spencer, Eureka High School graduate Class of 2008, who passed away as the result of a tragic automobile accident. Jacob had a strong interest in Auto Mechanics throughout his high school career.

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Eureka High School graduating senior who plans to attend College of the Redwoods.

Eligibility Criteria:

·   Must be a graduating senior from Eureka High School

·   Minimum GPA of 2.0

·   Financial need will be considered in case of a tie.

·   Must be planning to attend College of the Redwoods

·   Two letters of recommendation (forms attached to application with at least one being from an EHS teacher)

2012 Caltrans District 1 Scholarship Applications Are Here!

Deadline: Postmarked by April 27, 2012

Our local office of the California department of Transportation, District 1 in conjunction with The California Transportation Fund and Caltrans Social Found has announced a $500 scholarship for seniors who are planning a career in transportation.

Eligibility Criteria:

·   Must be a high school senior from or residing in Humboldt, Del Norte, Lake or Mendocino county

·   Must plan to pursue a career in transportation

·   Must provide an official transcript to verify your GPA

·   Must provide a description of participation in extra-curricular and/or community-related activities

·   Letters of recommendation will be considered.

Applications are available in the counseling office and must be postmarked by April 27, 2012. You can also download a copy of the application from their web site at this link: Caltrans

Eureka High School Class of 1945 Scholarship Applications Now Available

Deadline: April 19, 2012 no later than 3:30pm

The Eureka High School Class of 1945 is offering one scholarship to a male student in the amount of $500.

Eligibility Criteria:

·   Male graduating senior from Eureka High School

·   Minimum 2.5 GPA

·   Must attend College of the Redwoods

·    Proof of enrollment will be required in order to receive the scholarship

What to submit:

·   Two page application form

·   Personal statement (1-2 pages in length) answering the following questions:

1.      What are your goals for the future?

2.      what is the most difficult experience you’ve had to overcome in your life so far?

·   Official high school transcript.

Return the completed application packet to the EHS Counseling office no later than 3:30pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

New Scholarship: Janes and Jeff Kitna Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: April 20, 2012

This $500 scholarship is for seniors whose parent(s) are employed as teachers or administrators at Eureka High School.

Selection is based on a GPA of 2.5 or better, involvement in school and community activities and financial need.

You will need to turn in your application and a copy of your transcript.

Come and pick up your application in the counseling office today. You must turn in your application packet to the Eureka High School counseling office no later than 3:30pm on April 20, 2012.

A to Z Eye Care Health Career Scholarship Applications Available

Deadline: Postmarked by April 20, 2012

A to Z Eye Care in Arcata is offering two $500 scholarships for graduating seniors from Humboldt County High Schools who are planning to further their education in a health care related field. Students must be entering college, vocational school as a full time student in the Fall of 2012 with a major in the health care related field.

Eligibility for these scholarships will be based on financial need and minimum GPA of 3.0

Applicants will be judged in an essay contest by answering the following questions:

1. What health care field will you be studying?
2. Why did you choose this field?
3. What goals do you hope to achieve?
4. How will this scholarship help you to achieve your goals?

 Applications are available in the Counseling Office.
