Registration begins Monday November 5, 2012 and classes begin January 12, 2013.

Placement Tests for Redwood Days Attendees

If you are planning to attend Redwood Days and haven't taken your Assessment Tests yet, you are running out of time!  You cannot register for classes unless you have taken these tests. Tomorrow is the last day for scheduled tests held out at the main CR campus. There is one from 1:00-3:00 and one in the evening from 4:00-7:00 in the Academic Support Center in the Library. Call 476-4106 to register for the tests.
 You can also still test at the Downtown Office at 605 K. Street. They have drop in testing on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Testing hours are from 8:00am-2:00 pm. Call 269-400 for more information.

Those of you who received permission slips, make sure you get those signed and turned into the Counseling Office by Monday, May 14, 2012. If you don't turn in your permission slip, you will not be allowed to go with us that day.

Change For College of the Redwoods Concurrent Enrollment Students.

There is a big change for students considering concurrent enrollment at College of the Redwoods. Beginning Spring 2012, concurrently enrolled students will be charged enrollment fees. The fee beginning summer 2012 is $46 per-unit. There are new updated Concurrent Enrollment forms now available in the Counseling Office.

To offset the cost of enrollment, College of the Redwoods is suggesting you apply for the BOG fee waiver. The BOG application is now attached to the Concurrent Enrollment form.

If you are planning to take a summer class as a concurrent student at CR, stop by the Counseling Office today.

Two More Humboldt Area Foundation Scholarships Due in April

Deadline April 15, 2012

The Humboldt Area Foundation is looking for applicants for the following two scholarships! If you are interested in continuing your post secondary education in Automotive Technology or English, check out these two scholarships:

Ralph E. Bumpus Memorial Scholarship

The family of Ralph E. Bumpus is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Eureka High School graduating senior who is planning to continue their education in the field of automotive technology. In the past, preference has been given to students who will attend the College of the Redwoods Automotive Technology Program.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be a Eureka High graduating senior
• Minimum GPA 2.0
• Pursuing a degree or certificate in the area of automotive technology
• Must attend an accredited college or vocational/career technical program
• All things being equal, financial need will be considered

What to submit:

1. Completed application form
2. 1-2 page personal statement
3. Your official transcript
4. Two letters of recommendation

Friel Family Scholarships

The Howard Friel Family Scholarship is being offered by Howard Friel, who is a retired math teacher and coach for Eureka City Schools for many years. While Mr. Friel was a math teacher, he felt English was the most important subject. This award is for $300 and will go to a Eureka High graduating senior who is planning to study English.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Eureka High School graduating senior
• Planning to attend a college or university in California
• Planning to major in English
• Can be a full or part-time student
• GPA is not considered
• Preference will be given to students who play an instrument or sings

What to submit:

1. Completed application form
2. 1-2 page personal statement
3. Official transcript
4. Two letters of recommendation

Applications for both of these applications are available in the Counseling Office. Don't let these get away! They are both great LOCAL scholarships!

Eureka High School Class of 1945 Scholarship Applications Now Available

Deadline: April 19, 2012 no later than 3:30pm

The Eureka High School Class of 1945 is offering one scholarship to a male student in the amount of $500.

Eligibility Criteria:

·   Male graduating senior from Eureka High School

·   Minimum 2.5 GPA

·   Must attend College of the Redwoods

·    Proof of enrollment will be required in order to receive the scholarship

What to submit:

·   Two page application form

·   Personal statement (1-2 pages in length) answering the following questions:

1.      What are your goals for the future?

2.      what is the most difficult experience you’ve had to overcome in your life so far?

·   Official high school transcript.

Return the completed application packet to the EHS Counseling office no later than 3:30pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

Assessment Testing For College of the Redwoods

Students who have filled out and turned in their CR enrollment forms and have a current CR ID# can take English and math assessments. You must be enrolled in CR to take the test at CR. All entering CR students must take assessments (as part of the matriculation process) in order to determine their current skill levels for placement into appropriate courses. Assessments are given at scheduled dates and times and students must reserve a space in advance by contacting the Academic Support Center at (707) 476-4106. These tests are computerized and students must be familiar with the use of keyboard and mouse. Accommodations are available for students with disabilities. Contact the Disabled Students Programs and Services at (707) 476-4280

At the Eureka Campus Assessment will be held in Learning Resource Center (LRC) 103. Report to the Academic Center to check in before the test.

It is very important to review and prepare before taking the math and English assessment tests. Students can often score significantly higher after some review and practice which helps to ensure proper course placement. Students who that take the assessment tests without out any review and practice sometimes score poorly and are placed in a course level that is too low for their skills.

·         Anyone taking an assessment MUST present a current photo ID at the tome of testing. Acceptable photo ID includes a valid driver’s license, CR ID card, State ID or passport.

·         Results for all students are available after testing

·         NO personal calculators are allowed during these assessments

·         Bring a lunch

·         If you are planning to attend a community college other than CR, call them to see if they will accept the CR assessment results from CR. Remember, you need to enroll and have a CR ID number in order to test at CR.

·         Students who verify completion of Math and/or English Advanced Placement Examination scores of 3, 4, or 5.

North Coast College Access Scholarship

The North Coast College Access Scholarship aims to make post-secondary education financially accessible to academically talented, low-income and first generation college students served by the Northcoast CalSOAP, Talent Search and Upward Bound Programs at College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University.

You must be enrolled and an active participant in these programs to qualify for this scholarship.
