BigSun Athletic Scholarship

BigSun Scholarship...2012

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. In order to do our part we are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

How to Apply:Please send us a short essay answering the following question:

How has your education contributed to who you are today?
Why do you want to earn a college education?

Deadline:
June 22, 2012.

Who is eligible?
All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute.

How to submit
All essay submissions should be sent to:

When is the winner notified?

The winner will be notified within 2 weeks and the name of the winner will be posted on this website at that time.

When is the award received?
The award is mailed within 2 weeks of the deadline.


 

The 10th annual National Co-op Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: FEBRUARY 15, 2012  (Postmarked)

If you are planning to attend any of the Colleges listed below, you may be eligible for a WACE Partner Institution merit scholarship. There are numerous $6,000 scholarships available at these seven colleges or institutions:

Drexel University
  • Johnson & Wales University
  • Kettering University
  • Rochester Institute of Technology
  • University of Cincinnati
  • University of Toledo
  • Wentworth Institute of Technology

Qualifications:

To qualify for this scholarship, students must:
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Complete all the required admissions applications material and be accepted for the 2012-2013 academic year at one of the WACE Partner Institutions listed below.

UC Davis, UC Merced, and UC Santa Cruz Representatives Nov. 2 at Eureka High


We are very excited to let you know that representatives from UC Davis, UC Merced, and UC Santa Cruz will be at Eureka High School on Wednesday, November 2nd from 9 to 10 am in the Auditorium.

 All grade levels will benefit, not just seniors who are completing UC applications. This is a once-a-year opportunity. 

The representatives will be giving information about the UC system, how to be a competitive applicant, and how to fill out the application. Parents are invited to attend the presentation as well. 

All students who plan to attend must sign up on or before Monday, October 31st in the Counseling Office, or on a list that counselors will bring to each classroom.

College Scholarship for Homeless and At-Risk Students
Give US Your Poor is proud to partner with the Horatio Alger Association in offering college scholarships to homeless, formerly homeless, and at-risk students. The Horatio Alger Association provides approximately 1,000 scholarships each year to eligible students who have overcome adversity in their lives. For the second time in two years, in partnership with Give US Your Poor, the Association is reaching out directly to students who have experienced homelessness to invite them to apply for their scholarship programs.

The Horatio Alger Association provides scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $20,000. National scholarships are awarded at $20,000. Scholarships in each state are also awarded in various amounts.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria:
  • enrollment full-time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation in the Spring/Summer 2012, with plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation;
  • a strong commitment to pursuing and completing a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. Idaho, Louisiana, and Montana state scholarship recipients must pursue and complete a degree at specific colleges and universities. Please see the individual program description for those requirements);
  • critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided);
  • involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
  • demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
  • United States Citizenship.

Seniors: Last SAT that will count for college!

Deadline: November 8, 2011 for the December 3, 2011 Test

If you are planning on going to a four-year college, this will be the last test that will count for your application. 

Registration deadline for the December 3, 2011 test is Tuesday November 8, 2011. If you are an  AVID student or on the free/reduced lunch program,  you are eligible for a fee waiver. You can get those in the counseling office, just ask your counselor or the secretary. If you miss the deadline, you will have to pay an additional $26, so don't be late!

California State PTA Scholarship Applications are here

Deadline: Must be in the PTA State Office at the close of business on February 1, 2012.

The California State PTA offers graduating high school seniors Scholarships in the amount of $500 each to acknowledge the achievements of high school seniors for volunteer service in the school and community and does not have a GPA Average restriction.

Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be:
  • A California resident
  • Graduating from a California High School with a PTA/PTSA unit in good standing
  • A member of your high school PTA/PTSA (you must submit a copy of your current membership card with your application)

What to submit:
  • Completed application
  • Legible copy of your PTA/PTSA membership card on 81/2 x 11 piece of paper
  • Essay responses
  • Reference forms (included in application) and reference letters in SEALED envelopes

All paperwork must be submitted in ONE envelope and mailed to arrive in the California State PTA office by close of business on February 1, 2012. Faxes and postmarks will not be accepted.

University Application Workshop for Native American Seniors

Free University Application Workshop for Graduating Native American Seniors Friday, November 11, 2011.

High School Seniors enrolled in an American Indian Tribe may sign up for this FREE workshop to be held Friday, November 11, 2011 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm on the CSU Sacramento campus.

Personnel from both the CSU and UC systems will be present to assist you with your application. Hands on help with the on-line application will be offered and you will submit your application that day.

If you are planning to apply to a UC system school, make sure you contact Ricardo Torres immediately so that you can get help with your personal statement BEFORE the November 11 date.

Cal State East Bay Preview Day 10/29/2011

Cal State East Bay is having a preview day on Saturday October 29, 2011 from 8:30 am- 12:30pm.

Cal State East Bay is located in Hayward California and is a school in the CSU system. If you are interested in attending, you must register at CSU East Bay by Friday, October 21, 2011.

At Preview Day you will learn about academic programs and major;  attend presentations on admission, financial aid, athletics and student life; tour the campus and residence halls and meet with students from different clubs and organizations.

Preview Day is a free, informational program for prospective students and their parents. Take campus and residence hall tours, explore the majors and activities fair and hear from current students about the UC Davis experience.

Registration is required in advance at registration today.

Also available October 19, 2011, is an online UC Davis Open House through CollegeWeekLive. This is a free online event and will feature live video chats by UC Davis students.

November 2-3 2011 is CollegeWeekLive Fall where you can chat live with admissions representatives via text chat.

The Violet Richardson Award sponsored by Soroptimist International recognizes young women who make the community and the world a better place through their volunteer efforts.  If you are a young woman who has done a lot a volunteer/service work and have a passion for it, you are encouraged to apply. Winners are eligible to receive cash awards for themselves and for the charitable organization of their choice.

The applications for the Horatio Alger Scholarship Are now open. The deadline for submitting this application is October 30, 2011 (meaning it must be in the mail by October 30, 2011)

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria to be considered for National Scholarships and Horatio Alger State Scholarship Programs are as follows:
  • enrollment full time as a high school senior, progressing normally toward graduation in the Spring/Summer 2012, with plans to enter college no later than the fall following graduation;
  • a strong commitment to pursuing and completing a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution located in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution. critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided);

What you need to turn in:

  • Certifications Form
    All applicants must complete the Academic Information section and Adversity section in order for the online Certification Form to be accessed by your counselor. A login will be emailed to your counselor and they will be required to complete the Certifications form online once these two sections are complete. (Please notify your counselor that they will receive an email from the Association providing instructions for how to complete the certifications form online).
  • High School Transcript
    All applicants must submit an official High School transcript. Applicants have the option to either upload the transcript through the application or send it via mail. Faxes/emails will not be accepted.
  • Letter of Support
    All applicants must have one Letter of Support. Students must provide the email address of the person filling out their letter of support. A login will then be emailed to this person. The letter must be filled out
    onlineFaxes/emails will not be accepted.
  • A copy of your parent/guardians federal tax return
    All applicants must provide a copy of the front page of your parent/guardian's 2010 individual federal tax return (1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ or 1099 SSA-Social Security Tax Form). If your parents/guardians were not required to file a tax return, include statement copies showing the amount of any government benefits, such as food stamps or Public Assistance documents. Faxes/emails will not be accepted.
  • Income Verification Cover Sheet
    All applicants are required to submit a cover sheet with their income verification information. Click

Deadline for Nov. 5 SAT test is Oct. 7

If you are interested in taking the November 5, 2011 SAT test, you must register by THIS Friday, October 7, 2011 to avoid paying late registration fees!

Go to CollegeBoard to register for the SAT and to ACT to register for the ACT.

If you are an AVID student or getting free/reduced lunch, you are eligible for a fee waiver. If you come and get a fee waiver, you must take the test that you registered for! If you are not sure if you can take it on that date, wait and register for a different date. The last SAT/ACT tests that will count for Seniors applying for college is:

SAT:   December 3, 2011 with a registration deadline of November 8, 2011

ACT:  December 10. 2011 with a registration deadline of November4, 2011.

If you don't register by the registration deadline, you will be charged an extra fee for late registration.
