The 2012 SAT Report on College & Career Readiness is now available at Collegeboard.org

The 2012 SAT Report on College & Career Readiness is now available at Collegeboard.org

The SAT® Report on College & Career Readiness: 2012 provides students and families with helpful information about the role and value of the SAT in high schools and higher education, and shines a light on educational inequities that must be overcome to guarantee that all students are ready for, and succeed in, college. When used appropriately, the SAT can be a valuable tool for high school educators, college-bound students, and higher education.
Highlights of the Report:

High School Course Work and SAT Performance
Academic preparedness for college is in large part dependent on the type and rigor of courses that students take in high school. Students in the class of 2012 who reported completing a core curriculum performed better on the SAT than those who did not complete a core curriculum, by an average of 144 points.

SAT Participation and Performance: Class of 2012

More than 1.66 million students took the SAT in the class of 2012, making it the largest class of SAT takers in history. The mean scores for the SAT class of 2012 were 496 in critical reading, 514 in mathematics and 488 in writing. Since 2008, SAT participation has increased 6 percent, while critical reading scores have declined four points, writing scores have declined five points, and mathematics scores have remained stable.

Gaggle!!

Did you know that every Eureka High School student has a Gaggle account?

What is Gaggle you might ask? It is an email program that you can access from any school computer (and your home computers too). Why is this good information to know? This is the ideal way to move your school work from home to school and vice versa.

Say you finished that paper at home and don't have access to a printer at home or you're out of paper or ink, you can email your paper to your Gaggle account and then print it at school! We have 2 computers available here in the counseling office that you can use to print your work.

How do you access this Gaggle Account? It's easy, just follow the simple directions below:
  • Go to www.gaggle.net
  • click on Customer Login in the top right hand corner
  • click on the link that says "Click here if your email ends in something different." It is in tiny green print at the end of the box that asks for your email
  • Type in your full email address which is your PowerSchool/computer log in followed by @eurekahighschool.org. Your password will be the same as your PowerSchool/computer password.
  • Hit enter and that should get you into your account.
This is a great option for you until we have more computers that are able to access flash drives. You can also email your teachers using this account. It's fast and easy to do, just follow the directions above. If you don't know your PowerSchool/computer login information, stop by the counseling office or the  registrar's office (M103) and Kris can help you with that.

PLEASE NOTE THIS INFORMATION REGARDING ADMISSIONS!!

Important Notice

Fall 2013 Term: The priority application filing period for fall 2013 is October 1, 2012 through November 30, 2012. All CSU campuses will accept applications for admission during this period.

CSU campuses will hold all applications until the end of this initial application filing period on November 30, 2012. The reason for this action is because there is a measure on the November ballot (Proposition 30) which requires voters to decide whether to provide additional funding to help the state address the ongoing structural deficit. If Proposition 30 is not approved, the CSU budget will be cut an additional $250 million.

Enrollment capacity on the CSU campuses is necessarily tied to the amount of available state funding. Therefore, if Proposition 30 is not approved, the CSU will have to admit fewer students. Admission decisions are therefore being postponed; students will begin to receive admission notices after the application deadline of November 30, 2012.

For more information and to get started on your application, please click on the link below:

SAT Deadlines Coming Up

The late registration deadline for the November 3, 2012 SAT test is next Friday, October 19, 2012. You will need to pay a late registration fee of $27* in addition to the normal $50 fee. If you are eligible for a fee waiver, the waiver will not cover the $27 but will cover the $50. Stop by the counseling office to see if you qualify for a fee waiver.

The registration deadline for the next and last SAT test that can be used  for college applications and admissions purposes will be November 1, 2012 for the December 1,2012.

Stop by the counseling office to pick up a schedule for both the SAT and the ACT tests and see if you are eligible for a fee waiver.

* Late registration is $27, not $77.

If you have not yet sent your scores to either a CSU campus or CSUMentor, you can request this at:
