Scholarships due in February

Here are the scholarships that are due in February:

February 17, 2012- PGandE Up to $1 Million
This year, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will award up to $1 million in scholarships to students who live within its Northern and Central California service area.  There is still time for Humboldt and Mendocino County students to apply for the inaugural PG&E Bright Minds™ Scholarships. As of right now, there have been less than 15 applications submitted so this is the time to apply!! You have a good chance of receiving one of these awards so apply now!

Due February 29, 2012- Mark E. Reed Scholarship (Green Diamond)

The Mark E. Reed Scholarship Program (sometimes known as the Green Diamond scholarship) is going to be awarding eight $3,000 scholarships in the California Operating Area and are now accepting applications.

This is an online application and must be printed and mailed to arrive in their office by 5:00 on 2/29/2012. Late applications will not be accepted.

To be eligible, applicants must qualify as an "employee," "spouse of an employee," "child of an employee" or "resident." There are no restrictions for scholarship recipients as to race, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, veteran or marital status or sensory, mental or physical disability. While there are some variables in the selection process, merit is the principal determinant. Local boards evaluate candidates on:
  • Qualities of leadership and citizenship
  • Seriousness of purpose
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Ability and capacity for continuing development
  • Breadth of outlook as evidenced by participation in activities other than scholastic activities

Mark E. Reed Scholarship Application and Forms

This is not a scholarship but an awesome summer school for students interested in the arts:

The California State Summer School for the Arts-Registration Deadline is February 28, 2012

The CSSSA is looking for talented high school aged students who are interested in visual, literary, media or the performing arts to attend a top of the line summer school program that runs from July 14-August 10 2012 on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia California.

Instruction is offered in the fields of Animation, Film/Video, Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theater and the Visual Arts. This four-week program affords students the opportunity to study and work with professional artists, writers and performers of national stature. Students who complete the course successfully will also receive 3 units of CSU course credit!

There is a comprehensive fee of $1500 that covers room, board and tuition for the entire four weeks and there are scholarships available. Approximately 40% of students will receive some kind of financial aid.

Stay informed by checking the blog, the bulletin (available on PowerSchool) and the scholarship box located in the Counseling Office. We want you to be successful in furthering you education and making it affordable.

Up to 10 students will receive full-ride scholarships of up to $30,000 per year, renewable for up to four years or until a degree or certificate is earned. Finalists will also receive a $2,500 scholarship award and can reapply each year.

To be eligible, students must live within PG&E’s 70,000 square-mile service area, be a high school senior or graduate, be at least 16 years old and plan to enroll at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
