eQuality Scholarship Online Applications Now Available

Deadline February 1, 2013

The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community. Scholarships may be used for post-secondary education at accredited institutions - colleges, universities, and trade schools. This scholarship is for $6,000 and you do not have to be lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender to apply

Eligibility:

·         All applicants must:
have demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community (applicants of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible)

·         be available for an interview either by phone or in-person on 10 or 16 Mar 2013.

·         be a resident of northern or central California (visit www.equalityscholarship.org for a map of counties included);

·         have completed or expect to complete high school or equivalent between 1 Jul 2008 and 30 Jun 2013;

·         plan to attend or began attending an accredited post-secondary institution—college, university, or vocational/trade school—for the first time in 2013.

The Violet Richardson Award Applications Now Available! UPDATED!

Are you a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteers in your community or school? 

The Violet Richardson Award recognizes young women who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty.

Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest.  Soroptimist is an organization of women whose members volunteer in their communities, often working on the same problems that you do.

If you are a young woman who believes in the power of volunteer action, then you may be eligible to win a Violet Richardson Award of $750 and receive a donation of $250 for the charity of your choice.  Deadline for application is December 1, 2012.

November:

Stokes Educational Scholarship Program

Deadline: November 15th, 2012

Qualifications for High School Students – You must major in computer science or computer/electrical engineering and meet the following requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Eligible to be granted a security clearance
• A high school senior at the time of application
• A minimum SAT/College Board score of 1600 (1100 Critical Reading and Math, 500 in Writing) or ACT of 25
• A GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale is preferred
• Demonstrated leadership abilities

How to Apply:

·         Program applications will be accepted between September 1st and November 15th each year. Applications must be submitted online or postmarked on or before November 15th.  Applications received after the deadline, as well as incomplete packets, will not be considered.

To apply for the Stokes Educational Scholarship Program, applicants must first:

• Submit a resume online during open season by clicking any “Apply Online” link. 
•  Under “Basic Job Search,” type in the keywords “Stokes Educational Scholarship
• Program” and click on “Search.” Select “Stokes Educational Scholarship Program” and click “Apply Now.”
• Follow the directions as prompted.

Once your resume has been submitted online, please submit the following by mail:

• Letter of Recommendation from a teacher/counselor/advisor who can attest to your academic ability.
• One-page essay entitled, “I want a career at NSA because…”.
• An official transcript from your high school which indicates your unweighted cumulative GPA and class rank (if applicable).
• Photocopy of your SAT/ACT or College Board scores (required for all high school students).
• Three (3) pages of supplemental information, if desired. This information can be anything that would enhance your application, such as an original essay, etc.

Futuro Con Leche Scholarship

Deadline:December 15, 2012

The Hispanic Scholarship fund and Got Milk have teamed up to offer ten $4,000 scholarships for high school seniors of Hispanic Heritage.

Eligibility requirements:

• Be of Hispanic heritage
• US citizen, legal permanent resident or an eligible non-US resident
• High school graduating senior planning to enroll full-time seeking a degree at a four-year or two year accredited U.S. institution in the US, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2013-2014 academic year
• Minimum GPA 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
• Must be eligible to receive a Pell Grant
• Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA in 2012
• Must write a maximum 250 word essay telling us about  your high school journey and how making milk part of your routine has helped you succeed.

2013 National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur Awards

Deadline December 17, 2012

If you are a senior, an entrepreneur and operate your own small business, you may be eligible to win a Young Entrepreneur Award!

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards are open to any graduating high school senior entering their freshman year at an accredited (not for profit) two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute. Applicants MUST be running their own small business in order to be considered for an award.

Who is eligible:

·         Any graduating high school senior who owns and operates their own business

·         Must enter their freshman year at an accredited two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute in the fall of 2013 and be enrolled full-time.

You will also be asked to write a typed, 1,000 word essay describing your entrepreneurial experience and involvement with small business.

The NFIB Young Entrepreneur  Awards are $1,000, 4 National Young Entrepreneur Awards of $5,000 and one NFIB Young Entrepreneur of the Year  of $10,000 will be awarded. These must be used in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The deadline for this is December 17, 2012 so you’ve got plenty of time to apply for this one and get that essay written.

PG&E Scholarships Applications Are Open

Deadline February 1, 2013

PG&E has a wide variety of scholarships to offer ranging from the $1,000 to the $5,000. Check these out, there is probably one  you qualify for! (link at the bottom of the post)

Instructions

You need to please send a separate application package to each Employee Resource Group to which you are applying. Be sure to review the application supplements for each group to which you are applying, as there are additional requirements for each group. The applications and all supporting documents must be postmarked or e-mailed by Friday, February 1, 2013.

Required documents for a complete scholarship application packet:

q Completed and signed application form

q Essay(s) on the topic specified per the erg application supplement

q Copy of PG&E bill from within the last six months or other proof of residency in the PG&E service area

q Two (2) letters of recommendation from teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, community leaders, mentors, or work supervisors

Some of the ergs require additional documents. Be sure to review the erg application supplements for those requirements.

Applicants for the PrideNetwork scholarships should not complete this application. Instead, please go to www.equalityscholarship.org for a link to the online application.

Notes

u  You will be notified by April 12, 2013, of your scholarship application status and next steps (if applicable).

u  Scholarship recipients must attend an accredited school within the United States and provide a student ID number before any scholarship funds will be disbursed.

u  PG&E scholarships are mailed directly to recipients’ schools and may only be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Checks are not sent directly to students nor their families.

California State University and University of California system applications are now open and due on November 30, 2012!

Your counselors will be available in the Navi Lab to help you complete and submit your applications on the following days and times.

Wednesday, November 7: 2nd, 3rd and 6th periods

Tuesday, November 13: 6th period

If you have any questions, don't have computer access at home or just want a counselor to look over your application before you send it in, stop by the Navi Lab (across the hall from the counseling office) and speak to a counselor during the listed times.

You can, of course, fill out a request to see your counselor any time and they will call you in to talk to you.

Don't let this deadline get by you as the deadlines are firm.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program Application Online

The Gates Millennium Scholars program will select 1,000 students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship The goal of the GMA is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need. This is a truly awesome opportunity to help fund your college education. 

Qualifications:

Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:

·         Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American** or Hispanic American

·         Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States

·         Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED

·         Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited*** college or university (with the exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall of 2012 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student. First-time college enrollees can also be GED recipients.

·         Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities

·         Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria

·         Have completed and submitted all three required forms: the student’s application (Nominee Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student’s academic record (Nominator Form) and an evaluation of the student’s community service and leadership activities(Recommender Form) by the deadline

A Complete Application Consists of:

2. Educator’s evaluation of the student’s academic record (Nominator Form)
