The eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their SERVICE TO THE LESBIAN/GAY/BISEXUAL/TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY.

Scholarships may be used for post-secondary education at accredited institutions - colleges, universities, and trade schools. Scholarship amount is $5,000.

It is our policy to disburse scholarship funds to educational institutions only, not to scholarship recipients directly.

All applicants must:

·   HAVE DEMONSTRATED SERVICE TO THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY (applicants of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible); and
be available for an interview either by phone or in-person on 4 or 10 Mar 2012.

·   be a resident of northern or central California (visit www.equalityscholarship.org for a map of counties included)

·   have completed or expect to complete high school or equivalent between 1 Jul 2007 and 30 Jun 2012;

·   plan to attend or began attending an accredited post-secondary institution—college, university, or vocational/trade school—for the first time in 2012.

Students of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible for all eQuality Scholarships

The application includes the following essay questions:

·   How have you demonstrated your support for justice and equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in your school or community?

·   What challenges have you faced related to your LGBT community service? What other challenges have you faced in your life?

·   How has being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or an ally had an impact on your life?

The criteria on which scholarship recipients will be selected include:

·   Service to the LGBTQ community

·   Leadership

·   Hardship or special circumstances

·   Academic achievement

In addition to completing the written application, applicants for all scholarships must be available for an interview either by phone or in person on Sunday, 4 March 2012, or Saturday, 10 March 2012.
