Campus Visit Checklist: Things to Think About


When you decide which colleges to go visit, here are some things to do to get the most out of your visit:

  1. Talk with students and faculty
  2. Ask the tough questions until you get answers.
  3. Go to a class or two.
  4. Visit the career center.
  5. Bring a notebook to jot down  your impressions.
  6. Plan at least a half day at each school and stay overnight, if possible.
  7. Visit when the school is in session.
  8. Arrange an interview with an admissions officer.
  9. Take a campus tour.
  10. Attend an extracurricular activity like a sporting event or play.
  11. Check out the residence halls, libraries, student unions etc.
  12. Have a meal on campus.
  13. Find out about campus organizations and activities.
  14. Visit a lab associated with your intended major.

If you can’t visit a particular school, try these options:

    • Go to their website
    • Meet an Admissions Representative
    • Attend a college fair
    • Take a virtual tour
    • Call or email and ask for more information
