Do you have questions about using the FAFSA on the Web to apply for federal and state financial aid? Various sources of aid are discussed, where they can be used and for foster youth transitioning into college, information on the Chaffee Grant is included. The video talks through the process of getting a PIN code to electronically sign the FAFSA.
This video helps the student get through the steps needed to complete the FAFSA. Access the video here. English and Spanish versions are available.
After Filing Your FAFSA
Here is what you need to do to make sure your FAFSA is processed properly and you get your follow-up information:
- In your email program mark calgrantoffice.csac.ca.gov and studentsupport@csad.ca.gov as safe so you can receive email from the Student Aid Commission and not have it marked as junk.
- Look for an email from the FAFSA processor within 72 hours of filing online. IF you do not receive and email in that time frame, you should call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at (800) 443-3243
- When you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA processor check EVERY entry to make sure the information is accurate. The SAR will include directions for making changes if necessary.
- You can add or correct colleges by going to the FAFSA and clicking "Start Here" to log in. You will be given the option to Make FAFSA Corrections. College may be added or removed and corrections can then be submitted.
Seventy-two hours after filing your FAFSA you should establish a WebGrants for Students account. You can do that here and it is an efficient way to track your application and to manage your CalGrant award if you get one.
